Classic Reel Cases
Handcrafted from 12-ounce chestnut-colored saddle leather and finished with quality fitting, they are available in 3 ½” X 3 ½” and 3 ¾” X 3 ¾”, or can be built to custom specifications. They are totally hand made.
Fly Cases
Fishing Rod Case
The Horsfield Specialty
The Horsfield fishing rod case is crafted from leather of the highest quality and accented with solid brass fittings. Many parts are classically hand sewn, including the top of the cap, the base, and the buckle straps. The case is lined with PVC tubing to ensure that the shape will not be altered with time and frequent use.
The base consists of a 3/8 inch plywood plug covered with high density foam and lined with sheep's wool. Rod cases are available in various sizes to accommodate two to four rods. Cases to suit four-piece break down rod models are also available.
Don Horsfield was born in Clitheroe, Lancashire, England, where he apprenticed at the saddlery firm of James Edwin Cook at the age of fourteen.
After the war, Horsfield was commissioned to replicate a centuries-old leather bottle collection which was burned during wartime bombing. He worked from pictures and developed his own techniques to hand-craft the bottles.
Horsfield's leather bottles are replicas of those made by English bottle makers of the 17th and 18th centuries. In the manufacture of this vessel quality leather is stitched by hand using handmade flax thread.
Each bottle's shape is achieved by filling the unformed vessel with sand, inserting wood peg into the neck and pounding the peg to displace the sand. The bottle is lined with pure pine pitch and is suitable for all beverages except strong spirits and hot liquids.
It is finished with a natural pigment, polished, stoppered with a handmade hardwood plug and numbered to record ownership.
